Seamless gutters, cut to your house

Flat aluminium coil goes through a roll-former on the truck and comes out as one continuous gutter, cut to the exact measurement of your wall. It is carried up and hung in one piece.

A single seamless gutter run along the full elevation of a green board-and-batten house Formed on site

Why it matters

Every seam is a future leak

Sectional gutter is sold in ten-foot lengths and joined on the wall. Every one of those joints is sealed with caulk, and caulk has a service life. A forty-foot elevation gets three seams that will eventually weep down your siding, and the first you usually know about it is a stain.

On a seamless run the only joints are at the corners and the outlets, where they are supposed to be. That is the whole argument, and it is why the job has to be measured and formed at the property rather than cut to fit out of a van.

What the job involves

The parts that decide whether it lasts

Most of what separates a gutter that works from one that does not is invisible from the ground.

  • Size chosen for the roof, not the house. Five inch and six inch are the two standard profiles. The right one depends on the roof area actually draining into that run and how steep it is, not on what the rest of the street has.
  • Downspouts sized and placed to match. A correctly sized gutter fed into an undersized or badly placed downspout still overflows. Outlet positions get worked out with the gutter, not after it.
  • Hidden hangers, screwed into the fascia. Spaced closer where snow load and ice are a factor, which in this region is most places. Spike-and-ferrule is what works loose and leaves the gutter hanging.
  • Pitch set so it actually drains. A gutter needs a deliberate fall toward the outlets. Dead level holds standing water, which is how you get sediment, mosquitoes and ice.
  • Water run through before we leave. The only honest test is putting water in it and watching where it goes.

How it goes

You call or send the form

Tell us the property and roughly what is going on. Five minutes.

Step 02

We come and measure

Wall lengths, roof area, tree cover, and where the water currently ends up. Free, and no obligation.

Step 03

Rolled on your driveway

Formed to length on the truck the day it goes up, so nothing is cut to fit on the wall.

Step 04

Hung, pitched and flushed

Hidden hangers, fall set toward the outlets, then water run through to prove it drains.

Straight answers

Seamless Gutters questions

What does seamless actually mean?

The gutter is formed at your property. Flat aluminium coil runs through a roll-former on the truck and comes out as one continuous length cut to your exact wall measurement, so there are no joints along the run. Sectional gutter, sold in ten-foot lengths, is joined every ten feet, and every joint is a seam that can eventually work loose and leak.

Five inch or six inch?

It depends on how much roof drains into that particular run and how steeply it falls. A long, steep roof plane throws a lot of water at one gutter very quickly, and a five inch profile can be overwhelmed by it even though it looks perfectly adequate in dry weather.

This gets decided at the measure, by looking at the actual roof, rather than in advance.

Can you match the colour to my house?

Aluminium coil comes in a wide range of standard colours, so matching trim, fascia or a metal roof is normally straightforward. Bring it up at the estimate and we will go through what is available.

Do you replace fascia if it has rotted?

Rotted fascia behind a failed gutter is common here, and there is no point hanging new gutter on wood that will not hold a screw. If we find it at the measure we will tell you then rather than discover it on installation day.

How long does an installation take?

Most houses are a single day, because the gutter is formed on site rather than ordered in. Larger properties and commercial runs can go longer. We will give you a realistic answer at the estimate instead of a hopeful one.
